Week Three: Design Development

The team handed in the project proposal and received constructive criticism on how to revise and resubmit the proposal for approval of the project. In this proposal, the team evaluated the project stakeholders. Some examples of these stakeholders are the farm director, Allison Blansfield, the surrounding community, and we as a team.  Below is an excerpt from the Stakeholders and Needs section of the team's project proposal.  Each need was catergorized into one of the four P's: Performance, People, Planet or Prosperity.

1.1        Stakeholders and Needs

  • Allison Blansfield Stakeholder 1
o   Stake: Farm Manager and will regularly use the system
o   Need 1 Priority 1, P: Performance: able to collect and store rainwater
o    Need 2 Priority 1, P: Performance: able to water the crops in the greenhouse
o    Need 3 Priority 1, P: Planet: must use renewable energy resources
o    Need 4 Priority 2, P: Performance: must be easily maintained and operated

All of design concepts and budget information were complied into our proposal. In this initial design, a sump pump will be powered by a car battery to run our sprinkler irrigation system. The following week will be dedicated to modifying the technical design of our rainwater catchment and irrigation system.
